Home Remedy for Sinus Infections, Colds & Sore Throats

Recipe

I wanted to start my blog off with a helpful recipe to fight off those pesky cold symptoms. This home remedy is super easy to mix up when you’re feeling like you’ll never be able to get out of bed again. It can cut healing time in half and will clear a sore throat, sinus infection or congestion overnight sometimes. Who has time for being sick for a week? Not this mom! I’m a busy mom of 4 kids and just one day sick in bed can mean the house will crumble down around me. I am also breastfeeding my 7 month old and having a cold can reduce my already threatened milk supply. Im super thankful that the ingredients for this powerful tea are always in our kitchen and completely safe to drink while pregnant or breastfeeding.

We do sell Elderbery syrup in our shop that is amazing for boosting the immune system and killing the flu. This home remedy works well with Elderberry syrup as well to give those germs a double punch. Before I introduce the recipe for this tea read below to learn a little bit more about these amazing ingredients. You can buy Homemade Organic Elderberry syrup here.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The most helpful apple cider vinegar is the kind you can buy with the “mother”. My favorite brand that is easy to find in the store is Bragg’s. Apple cider vinegar has been helpful in killing bacteria, like E.coli, clearing acne, helps you lose weight and reduce belly fight, killing yeast infections when used in a bath, lowering blood sugar levels and lowering cholesterol. Those are just the internal health benefits for humans. I have also found it useful in treating skin conditions for dogs and preventing fleas and ticks. Nobody likes the smell of ACV but it is too helpful to ignore as a helpful remedy.

Honey

The benefits of honey are endless! Honey is used in skincare products, tea, and baking. I love pouring a little honey over warm buttered biscuits, yumm! It can help internally as a remedy for the common cold and sore throats. The reason honey is so beneficial is because it is loaded with antioxidants. Studies have shown that antioxidants are helpful in preventing cancer, heart attacks and strokes, as well as lowering blood pressure. In my opinion, the best honey you can buy is raw honey that is local to your home. A lot of the honey you buy at the grocery store is artificial or loaded with other unhealthy ingredients. My kids can’t stand the taste of store bought honey, but they beg for the honey we buy from a local farm.

Lemon

Lemons are widely used in everything from skincare to cooking. It is also helpful for your health because of the high levels of vitamin C, a wonderful antioxidant. Antioxidants help with several health issues that we already discussed above. I commonly use lemons in my water to help prevent kidney infections and stones. Regularly drinking lemon water can shatter stones making it easier to pass them. Lemons have also helped me reduce the pain from intense kidney infections in a matter of days. Other ways lemons are helpful are killing acne, improving digestion, killing bacteria, and maintain weight loss.

So, without further ado, check out this incredible Cold Fighting Tea recipe below!

Recipe

1 Cup Water

1 Tablespoon Lemon

2 Tablespoons Honey

1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar

  1. Fill mug with water and heat in the microwave.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir well.
  3. Drink it hot because the apple cider vinegar can be hard to stomach once it starts to cool. You can drink this as many times a day as you would like.

I give this drink to all my kids when they start to feel the sniffles, achy throat or cough. One time I woke up at 2am in so much pain from a sudden sore throat. I drank this remedy and went right back to bed. When I woke up, my throat felt normal! On average, this home remedy helps our family heal in half the time.
